Famed hacker iH8sn0w, who is the developer behind popular jailbreak tools such as Sn0wbreeze and P0sixspwn, has released an open-sourced version of his universal 32-bit iBoot patcher that works on iPhone OS 2.0 up to iOS 10.
Many people have mistaken this release as an exploit that will allow 32-bit devices to be jailbroken, but unfortunately this is not the case. What has been released by iH8sn0w is a patcher for iBoot rather than an exploit. It allows patches to be applied to iBoot and works only if the CLI tool kloader is used.
The last jailbreakable firmware for 32-bit devices is iOS 9.0 – iOS 9.1, which can be done using pangu's jailbreak tool. The iOS 9.3.3 jailbreak which was released by the team a few months ago supports 64-bit devices only and Pangu already acknowledged that they have no plans in releasing a jailbreak for 32-bit devices.
Ever since the iPhone 5s was released, Apple moved towards 64-bit chip architecture, shifting away from the 32-bit architecture which is present in iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and earlier models. Since the architecture of 32-bit devices differ, it requires additional work by jailbreak developers to bring support for them. This coupled with the fact that 32-bit Apple devices form a small percentage of the market nowadays is the reason why jailbreak teams are unwilling to bring support for 32-bit.
Therefore, the take from today’s release by iH8sn0w is that it is by no means an exploit for 32-bit jailbreak. Instead, it is just a patcher for iBoot, so users shouldn’t get there hopes too high of a possible jailbreak.
